I am a Yooper, born and raised. I attended Northern Michigan University from 2000- 2004, earning a BS in Biology with a Chemistry minor and Secondary Education certification. I taught from 2004-2007 at Rib Lake High School in Rib Lake, WI. While there, I taught Biology, Chemistry, Human Anatomy & Physiology, Environmental Science, Astronomy, and AP Chemistry and also coached as a varsity football assistant, middle school football head coach, freshmen boys' basketball head coach, and track throwing coach. I then taught at Beaver Island Community Schools from 2007-2013, teaching all sciences for grades 7-12. I also coached the boys' varsity basketball team for BICS. While teaching on Beaver Island, I completed multiple research projects in Biology working at Central Michigan University's Biological Station on Beaver Island as well as graduate level courses in Biology. My next five years were spent at Norway-Vulcan Area Schools where I taught Biology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, Environmental Science, and 7th grade Science. I also coached 7th grade boys' basketball and worked on the varsity and junior varsity football staffs. I am now entering my third year at North Central Area Schools where I continue to teach Biology, Intro to Chemistry, and Forensic Science.
My wife, Anna, and I have a son, Greyson, and have enjoyed being back in the U.P. where he can grow up as a Yooper and enjoy the outdoors and friendly communities like we grew up in. I am looking forward to getting to know the people of the North Central Area district and helping the school play its vital role in those communities.
In my classroom, students will work with Writing Across the Curriculum, Differentiated Learning, Project Base Learning, and other strategies. I believe that students should do what works best for them. There is not necessarily a right or wrong way to gain knowledge or learn skills. As instructor, I will do my best to help students find the learning styles that best fit each of them and provide the necessary information and guidance to achieve the class objectives.
